Indigenizing Design Receives Honors from Core77 and Fast Company

Catapult Design, along with partners Indigenous Community Collaborative, Brian Skeet Design LLC, and CahokiaPHX, is deeply honored and privileged to share the recent recognition our Indigenizing Design project has received. Being recognized by esteemed organizations like Core77 and Fast Company underscores the importance and impact of our work.

Indigenizing Design: A Journey of Collaboration and Innovation

The Indigenizing Design project, funded by the National Endowment for the Arts, seeks to reimagine Human-Centered Design (HCD) by integrating Indigenous perspectives, values, and worldviews. Partnering with Indigenous Community Collaborative, Brian Skeet Design LLC, and CahokiaPHX, we aimed to rewrite the HCD narrative to be more inclusive of marginalized communities.

The project followed a three-phase approach: Understand, Implement, and Generational Impact. It involved defining the scope, co-designing the framework components, and applying them in diverse settings to refine the process further. Through these efforts, we aim to shift the design power dynamics, prioritizing Indigenous community-led decision-making and cultural stewardship.

Core77’s Design for Social Impact Award

The Indigenizing Design project was awarded the Design for Social Impact Award by Core77 in their 2024 Design Awards. Core77 is renowned for recognizing excellence across the design profession, promoting the best work on a global stage. Their commitment to inclusivity and the celebration of diverse design practices resonates deeply with our values at Catapult Design.

Fast Company: Honoring Innovation and Social Impact

Indigenizing Design was also honored by Fast Company in their 2024 Innovation by Design Awards. The project was named a Finalist in the Best Design North America category and received Honoree distinctions in both the Impact and Social Justice categories. Fast Company is known for celebrating projects that push boundaries, solve problems, and drive industries forward.

It’s an honor to announce these awards, alongside our partners. We are honored to be a part of this transformative work.
