Overall Remit

As a member of the Executive Team, the Strategic Development Director will contribute to Catapult Design’s reputation for innovative ideas and award-winning design, fostering teamwork to sustain Catapult Design’s vision and design excellence. The ideal candidate will be a positive and dynamic addition to Catapult Design’s stimulating culture, which thrives on passion, curiosity, and resourcefulness.

Only candidates with 8+ years of mid to senior-level global development experience will be considered. Interest and experience with regional U.S programs is a plus.

Languages: English is required. French and/or Spanish are a plus.

The Strategic Development Director will report to the CEO.

Description

This position is an exciting opportunity to conceptualize and present new ideas for applying design to the world’s most exciting challenges (at least, we think so!). Imagine spending your days looking at an issue, thinking about where our participatory, community-led design methods can help, building relationships with partners who will be at the forefront of the work (e.g., designers, non-profits, businesses), pulling together pitch decks, and closing the deals!

We seek a highly skilled and motivated Strategic Development Director to lead and enhance our business development efforts. The ideal candidate will have a strong strategic planning, market analysis, and business growth background, with a proven track record of driving organizational success.

The candidate will be responsible for identifying and capitalizing on growth opportunities, including crafting and executing business strategies that align with the company’s overarching goals and five-year plan. The role requires high-level communication and analytical skills to support strategic planning and business development. The chosen candidate will engage in various impactful projects across global health, education, energy and environment, and entrepreneurship, shaping social impact initiatives globally.


Specific Responsibilities

  • Strategic Planning: Develop and implement comprehensive plans aligning with the company’s mission and objectives. Identify key growth opportunities and create actionable strategies to achieve them.
  • Market Analysis: Conduct thorough market research and analysis to identify trends, opportunities, and competitive threats. Based on the findings, provide insights and recommendations.
  • Business Development: Lead business development initiatives, including identifying and pursuing new business opportunities, partnerships, and collaborations.
  • Performance Metrics: Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to track the effectiveness of strategic initiatives. Prepare and present regular reports to senior management and the board.
  • Relationship Building: Identify and build great relationships with funders, partner design firms, nonprofits, and government agencies.
  • Team Building: Experience working with consultants and full-time team members to assemble a team for a project.
  • Proposal writing and reporting: Draft all proposals and budgets and ensure team reviews as relevant.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Engage with internal and external stakeholders to ensure alignment and support for strategic initiatives. Communicate the strategic vision and progress effectively.
  • Coordination: Coordinate business development activities (proposals, strategies, concepts, conferences, pitches, and reporting) with the internal marketing, program, operations, and design teams.
  • Marketing: participate in all marketing activities.
  • Build a development team to support your efforts and manage relevant partners where needed.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range for this position is $160,000 to $170,000 USD per year. In addition to a base salary, this role includes the following benefits:
